Often and at various special times during the year you may have been wondering how to help a homeless child. It may be during Christmas and you want to give a homeless child a gift. Or, you may want to help a homeless child with a blanket and clothes. There are many things that homeless children need and often people also do not immediately know which Organisation to donate to.
First, we need to distinguish between the street homeless who live on the street. And the homeless who live in shelters, or some sort of housing. Both are suffering from poverty, ill health and lack of nutrition, medical services and social welfare. Homelessness is obviously affecting these children in different ways and once we understand how, we can help these children better.
Help a homeless child with needs
– We provide homeless children in our care and within our Children’s Home, a high-nutrition diet recommended by health professionals to boost the immune system. We also provide them safe, secure and hygienic living conditions. All donations of food, funds and any related goods will be used in the welfare of children. We appreciate any items such as nail clippers, hair shavers, nappies, clothing, new pairs of scissors, etc.

Children need the exact cut of uniforms as their peers as not to be singled out and treated with prejudice and because of this our Foundation presents the children in our care with the correct uniforms, as well as sports kits that are required. They will need the same stationery, and also sports equipment. We receive these items, as well as funding for this purpose.

We welcome volunteers who will tutor any subject to children, and we also encourage volunteers to become life coaches. You may not have the money to help a homeless child but you may have the experience in a certain field that will benefit them. Upon application, we will review the demand for your tutorship and will include your services if and when required.

We welcome the public to permanently assist us in taking care of children and one of those ways would be to contribute to a child’s savings account. These savings are made available to the child on a yearly basis and at certain times, i.e. their birthday and Christmas.

We offer all children in our care medical assistance and that includes medical aid from a professional body. We need contributions from the public to support their medical aid schemes, or help from the public to generate funds. To financially support their aid.
How to help homeless street children? Children who are homeless and living on the streets have been through a great deal of stress. And are in fact victims of social abuse and neglect and because of this they do not trust easily. Because of this, children who are homeless have to be approached with a lot of tender care, with the right tone. And the right attitude in order to win their trust. If a child looks distressed, then it will be best to report the child to the Child Welfare of South Africa. Or the Police. We always encourage the public to get involved but we specifically need people to assist in helping these children off the street by becoming members of our Homeless Child Forum.
Homeless Child Forum
This is a special forum that consists of the collective team work of businesses, NGOs, Churches, members of the public, etc. For the purpose of getting homeless street children into welfare institutions and cared for. Members of the forum either contribute financially to the Children’s Fund or they are involved in revenue generation for the purpose. Of funding the welfare of homeless street children.
